Petroglyphs Provincial Park
saturday september 14
Group Hike and Cultural Teachings
Experience Indigenous History and Sacred Sites
“The deep crevices in the rock are believed to lead to the spirit world, as there is an underground trickle of water that runs beneath the rock which produces sounds interpreted by aboriginal people as those of the Spirits speaking to them”
Located near Peterborough, Petroglyphs Provincial Park has the largest collection of First Nations Rock Carvings in Ontario.
These petroglyphs are known as the “Teaching rocks” to the Ojibwe First Nation. This is a perfect opportunity to educate ourselves on the history of this land! We will get the opportunity to experience these sacred sites while also getting to hike around the park and end the day by McGinnis Lake – one of only a handful of meromictic (layers of water that don’t intermix) lakes in Canada.
Intermediate: May be hilly, some rough spots or obstacles. Suitable for hikers with some experience and basic fitness level.
THIS ACTIVEDAYS TRIP IS ORGANIZED BY THE ACTIVEDAYS COMMUNITY. SEE ALL ACTIVEDAYS TRIPS AND JOIN US VIA OUR FACEBOOK GROUP!

WHAT TO EXPECT WITH ACTIVEDAYS
To us, facilitating this event is about creating an environment that you can engage with in your own way. This is your experience and everyone has their own relationship with the outdoors and their bodies. We want to meet you where you are at — you can take part in the hike, or wander off on your own adventure
ActiveDays is also a community. This is an inclusive space to meet new people, share stories and have fun! To us, there is no better place to get to know someone than the outdoors. We all share a desire to get out, explore and move.
ALL ACTIVEDAYS PARTICIPANTS ARE REQUIRED TO SIGN A WAIVER. WE WILL SEND A DIGITAL COPY OF THE WAIVER VIA EMAIL. YOU CAN FIND A DIGITAL COPY OF A SAMPLE WAIVER HERE
